Setting yourself up for business success takes consistent work. So often, we are the biggest obstacle to our own success. Our automatic responses are usually dictated by our fears, doubts and limiting beliefs. However, we tend to think that it’s out of our hands.

Even though we may face some setbacks along the way, we can learn to see those obstacles for what they are, rather than thinking they mean the end of the road for our dreams.

Success doesn’t happen overnight and like most things in life, the more effort you put in, the bigger the rewards. With a little forward-planning, preparation and some mindset work we can massively increase our chances.

To clarify, there are things things that we can do make sure we’re open to the possibilities and opportunities that are around us.

There’s no magic potion or secret formula for business success. In other words, those ‘overnight sensations’ you might have seen have usually worked hard for a long time behind the scenes before achieving their ‘overnight success’.

Your goals, processes and mindset are major pieces of the puzzle. Combine them with focus, hard work and the desire to succeed and your business success will only be a matter of time.

Work through the following process to set yourself up for business success:-

Step 1 – Set Your Goals

Decide what you want to accomplish with your business.

Setting business goals gives us clarity, focus and direction. No matter how big or small your goals may be, they will be invaluable in setting yourself up for success.

Whether you’re just starting out in business, or you are growing an existing business, knowing where you want to end up can simplify the decision making process, help to prioritise your tasks and increase your chances of actually reaching your goals.

If your goals feel unattainable they can have the opposite effect. Break any big goals down into smaller goals that feel more achievable.

Your business goals should motivate you and guide you towards your next action steps.

Step 2 – Decide Who You Want To Be

If you want to be a successful business owner you’ll need to think and act like a successful business owner. Here’s an exercise that can help you determine the type of person that you want to be …

First, think about the type of person you need to be to achieve your business goals:

  • What words would you use to describe them?
  • How would they spend their time?
  • What would they do to build and grow their business?
  • How would they spend their money?
  • What would they invest in?
  • How would they do the things that you want to do?
  • What would they do differently than you?

For example,
A successful business owner could be described as happy, organised, well-dressed, confident, solution-focused, positive, etc. He/she would invest in themself, perhaps by hiring a coach or training to improve their skills in a particular area. They could focus on making progress and view their mistakes as lessons on the road to success. Maybe he/she would prioritise self-care because they know that they are the business’ most valuable asset.

Next, consider what you can do to beome more like the person you want to be. What habits could you build? What could you do differently?

Align your actions with being the person you want to be

Step 3 – Create Your Processes

A process is the actions that we need to take in order to achieve a goal. Often, these processes are more important than the goals themselves because when followed consistently, they can help us to make massive progress.

For example,
Time blocking is a really simple process, where you set aside a certain amount of time to focus on one particular task. These blocks could be 1 hour every day, 1 morning every week or every the third Tuesday of every month. It doesn’t matter when or how you do it, just that your process works for you.

If you feel that your processes are no longer working for you, examine ways to improve them. Maybe you need to add a step or two, or perhaps you need to allocate more time for certain tasks.

Processes are adaptable and will evolve as you grow

Step 4 – Make it happen

Even if you don’t know the whole process, we can start by taking the next step:

  • Choose new beliefs that will allow you to build a successful business
  • Dont wait for things to happen, be proactive and make them happen
  • Make the commitment to keep going until you get to where you want to be.

Make those bold decisions, be courageous and forge your own path. If you don’t know how to do something you can learn or hire someone to do it for you. There’s always a way – you just need to believe that you will figure it out and make it happen.

When we make a decision and start to take action that’s when amazing things begin to happen. We may not see the results immediately and it may require perseverance but it’s often worth it in the long run.

If you knew 100% that you couldn’t fail, what would you do?

In conclusion, everyone has to find their own path and it won’t always be easy, but by setting yourself up for business success, you’ll start to see more opportunities arise that will bring you closer to reaching even the biggest of your business goals.
